Curtain Material [help]

I’ve been looking for a method to produce a curtain material. I found that i can be done by Vray2SideMtl or refruction.
I’m interested in the Vray2SideMtl method. Can someone help me (and others) on this mater?

P.s Damien, i saw one of your post about it, but im new to Vray2SideMtl so if you could write a step by step, I’ll really appreciate it.

Re: Curtain Material

The 2sided material approach would definitely be better then trying to achieve the same result via refraction…the high glossiness that would be needed wouldn’t really be worth the render times. As for 2 sided materials, they look best when two conditions happening 1) there are distinct brighter and less brighter areas behind the surface itself… 2)There’s a different material for each side of the 2 sided material.

The reason why those conditions are important are because the first one will allow the “back” material to show up more. If the lighting situation is relatively the same on each side, you won’t necessarily see any thing different. The second one is almost a by product of the first one, in that if the back material does show up, its more distinctive if its different than the front material.

As always, I advocate playing with a few options in a few basic situations to get the feel of it…that goes a long way and can let you know what you can expect.

Re: Curtain Material

Thank you Damien, for you explanation. I’ll try it and post the results.

Re: Curtain Material

Shouldn’t the white curtain be more transparent?

The cream curtain has some light issue, what causing it? and how can i get close to this one?

Re: Curtain Material

Well, opacity is different than translucency, and translucency is what the 2sided material is trying to fake. So if you’ve got some opacity on any of the materials you’re using within the 2 sided material I would remove that. Then it mainly becomes an issue of tweeking the color used to blend the front and back materials to get the proper mix that you’re looking for.

Re: Curtain Material

Glad you got it working…To me it seams that the front curtain (along the top and the sides) is really transparent. I don’t know if that’s the look you’re going for but it could maybe use a little more of a “thicker” look…The rest of the image is great.

Re: Curtain Material

Yeah thanks, i’ve overexposed the curtain a bit. I’ll fix it and post back.
