Custom asset draw distance problem

I’ve created a forest patch custom asset and it only appears when looking from afar. I also cannot make a thumbnail in the editor as the window looks empty. The asset can be selected in BIM mode. Adjusting view properties doesn’t help either nor does turning RTX on or off. The problem persists when making a standalone .exe.

The model is about 20x20x25 m in size and ~2000 triangles with 4 image maps. I’ve tried importing in different units and both as .obj and .fbx.

The custom asset editor is an awesome addition when it works. A total gamechanger as most of the actual asset library is not usable in Nordic countries when it comes to trees. Please prioritise improving custom asset editor to adding more content to the library.

Hi @taklaus

thx a lot for your report! Does your tree geometry happen to have something like “lod ” in it’s name? It looks like you might have accidentally created an asset with level of detail. Please try renaming the geometry and see if that helps in this case!

Here’s a thread with more detailed information on the topic:

Ghost table disappears when walking away from it

That seemed to be the issue. Thanks.

Does this mean that one would be able to use LOD with Enscape custom assets?

We do not recommend using that with custom assets at the moment. I’d urge to wait for proper tooling integration for two reasons:

  1. It’ll be difficult for you to properly test if everything is working as intended (you usually want to have the ability to explicitly select the different LOD levels for display to make sure everything is setup correctly)

  2. If custom assets are now authored on the naming based scheme, these assets might easily break the moment we do any adjustment to how the LOD system works and you’d need to reauthor those assets again.
