Cyberpunk Girl WIP

Just wanted to get some comments on my latest character. She’s got quite a way to go still. My girlfriend’s helping me design the clothing.

All VRayMaterials
5 VRayLights + GI
Only using new Hilight feature (except for lenses)
@ current settings, rendering about 7-8 min for closeups and 3-4 min for full body.

I’ll eventually replace the meshsmooth with VRaySubDs along with displacement on the clothing.

C&C welcome.
Is she too cliche?

Thanks,
--Jon

dude that looks like my ex
holy cow
nice

Good work Jon . .
what are you future plans for her ?

Nice job indeed Jon, well proportioned

Thanks all,

She’s inspired by a Flaming Lips song about a girl called Yoshimi. I thought I’d have her bust up some old school Anime looking robots.

I also created her to solidify a bunch of stuff swimming around in my head about methods to composite character animation into a scene using GI with lowered render times in mind.

In the end she’s for my demo reel

cool … ive got the Album … i imagined her to be more Punk .. more hard.. but sexy .. you got the sexy bit.. heheh

I think we got the same impression from that song, maybe just a slightly different interpretation.

She is punk :!: … inside

When I first heard the song I thought of this inner power where she’s a sexy teacher, or something similar, by day and a robot smasher by night. So when she changes into this outrageous getup she’s flying through the air making some crazy-kabuki-mask-samuri-faces and screaming. After she shoots/ slashes/ pummels then her face turns all cool like Elvis to the point that she has to snap out of it for the next robot.

Kida a wild idea, again;inspired by animations like FLCL, but even if I don’t get around to those crazy facial expressions at least I can build a still pose with this as a back story in mind. I’d probably make one of her in her teaching outfit backed up against another of her in this garb and peaking around a corner from the dark with her blaster/ sword drawn.

I’m gona work on her makeup soon, not sure how wild yet but it may give her a little edge.

Very nice!!
As said before very nicely proportioned

I like the detail around her neck/clavicle area.

Well done, cant wait to see her animated with abit of bounce in her…ahhh…step…yeah thats it..

really nice i like a lot  lovely character

Hi Jon!

Your character is awesome. Did you import her from Poser or modeled in max? If modeled, how long did it take you to complete modeling/texturing? Nice proportions as it has already been said, only thing bugging me a bit, and I am not very sure about it - shouldn’t her ear be a biiiiiit smaller and a biiiiit positioned upwards, just a little, so the top of the ear is on the line with the eyes and the bottom on the line with the mouth/nose?

Did you do the texturing with unwrap? How long did it take you to make the texture in photoshop? Is the clothing extruded faces then polished and detached?

Great work man! Please rig her and make her kick someone with a matrix effect

nice model dude. agree with tisho about the ear though. give her a sexy pose man, women like that aren’t supposed to be viewed in a “T” pose…lol

haha percy, do you have in mind a “V” pose instead (whatever you may think it is) or you just want to see the character animated?

no I just want to see her hand on her hips, her back a little arched, her weight on one foot, waist a little turned, looking straight into my eyes… hehe

ps. dont know of a “V” pose. must be a bulgarian thing?.. lmao

do you have in mind a “V” pose instead

yes, Nenad, I think you got it 8) - percy, seems to had not taken it!

Hey guys, sorry for such a late response  I’ve been out of town helping a friend move.

I was a little worried about the proportions and have tweaked them allot. Glad to hear she doesn’t look unnatural or anything 8)

Here’s an update of what I worked on last week. I’m really happy with how she’s coming along. Thanks for all the great response, she’ll be rigged in no time. I’m starting to lean away from the animation for now and focus on some solid stills so I’ll consider all the poses. Might have to contact Tisho privately  :stuck_out_tongue:

No, nothing is from poser. It’s all my original creation with the support of a few friends ideas, some online photo source and a few new web sites I was directed to. From the date of her first file it looks like it’s been about 2 1/2 months total but this is in my spare time and I took about three weeks off from working on her at different times during the holidays. I think I could do it in less than half that time for the next and even less time with some pressure on me. She’s the first high poly model I’ve attempted both photorealism as well as modeling for animation with proper edgeloops and quads and stuff. Think I got the ear about right now?

Skin mapping was created with multiple techniques but I used unwrap allot. Can’t quite remember when I started the skin texturing but it’s primarily derived form the free hi-res images www.3d.sk gave out just before Christmas so it was probably just after that was amounted.

I’ve multiple versions of her clothed. She started as more of a fantasy based character but I didn’t like how she was looking so I changed her after listening to that song one day. The clothing is just detached and reworked versions of her skin for the most part unlike the fantasy version which doesn’t look as good.

I have some other tests of hair but I may wait till Ornatrix is fixed up with VRay so I can get a better effect.

Hi Jon!

Your character is great. I see you made the legs a bit shorter in comparison to the body, and yes, that’s the right way if she is not going to be a sci-fi character or something else like manga girl or so. The color of her underwear is better like so. The new hair style is ok. Isn’t the nose a bit wider on the nostrils? I liked it more before. And the white makeup just above the eyes - shouldn’t it be less obvious? All these are just my opinion and they are nothing in comparison with what you have done so far. 8)

About VRay and Ornatrix → http://www.ephere.com/ornatrix/index.php?mnu=5&dest=free
this might help.

Try to do some animations and post them. Cheers

Thanks, I didn’t realize Marsel had updated it already.

I think she may look different because of the smile morph target. I might need to be a little more subtle in some areas. The nose is wider because of this.

I’ll see what I can do about some animations but not promising anything

Very nice Trapezium! (erm, you’re J_Bug right?)
Keep pushing the Characters! (especially in this Forum…)

Her Dress is great as are her Boots. Cool Materials too.
I don’t think there is much to critique right now. I’m waiting for the Ornatrix Hair and maybe some Wireshots.

And good luck when you do Animation. I’d love to see this happen
PS: (What happened to your Reel? I remember this awesome Bird. You wanted to put it in there. [of cause this only matters if you ARE J_Bug… ;))]

Hi Sascha
Yes it’s me J_Bug…

Sorry to hear about Griesgram not accepting you into the Graphics School. Must be very hard to get into! Your character animation was great.

I’m dealing with a similar situation myself. I’ve sent my demo out to a few companies in the northern California area but haven’t been contacted yet so I’m refining it and adding this character work. I think I’m gona make two separate reels. One will focus on modeling and one on lighting and materials. I’ll then send both to each company… hope I don’t anoy them too much

I’ve PMed you a link to a WMV of what I sent on VHS (including the parrot). It’s right around 3 min and I think about 15 MB. I’m going through and pulling out many of the clips that aren’t so good and working to get it down to 1 min.
