Different look of VrayHair shader when applied to VrayFur vs Splines

Hi,

i`d like to create a setup for a realistic strand of hair for a closeup shot.
I got some good looking results with VrayHair Material and the Vrayfur Object. For straight hairs that works good, but i also need to do some curly hairs, and Vrayfur is quite limited there.
So i tried to model some curly hair strands with hundreds of scattered spline.
When rendering them in comparison to the vrayfur object, they look quite different ( both have the same material applied ).
Attached is a screenshot…any ideas whats the issue here ?

Thx for help
Robin

Standard splines are rendered as mesh geometry (cylinders) in V-Ray.

On the other hand, VRayFur is rendered as a pure V-Ray curve primitive.

As far as I know, you need a plug-in such as Ornatrix or HairFarm to generate hair with V-RayCurve attributes from splines.

What @flat said. VRayFur doesn’t convert the hair to triangles (mesh); it calculates the hair as curves. You can give the VRayFurStyler a chance, too.

Thanks for your feedback. i think i will give ornatrix a try and see, what i can achive with it.
Any idea if it has an option to animate hair…?
i need to do an animation for a hair straighter, so main goal is to have a curly hair strand and while moving it through the product it gets straightened out.
