Just something available in Brazil that was useful. In orange, below, is what I’ve copied from another thread but basically I would like to have a color swatch in the VRay Mat that is used for the Irrad Calc stage but then render a texture map for the final diffuse. This could also solve the color bleed wish that many have requested.
I remember this feature from Brazil Beta and it was very useful. Don’t know if it’s changed any since I last used it. It worked as a check box in the render params and allowed the GI to use the diffuse color swatch as a flat color override. It would be a great solution for color bleed as well as a nice little speed tweak. We should suggest it in the wish list.
I have not used Brazil so I could be missing your point. But, if you disable the maps switch in the vray global switches I think you’ll get what you want…vray will use the diffuse color of the material instead of the map to calculate the irmap. As for the color bleed issue you’ll just have to make sure your diffuse colors are the same - I use the default color 128,128,128.
That’s a good point but doesn’t this only work if your using saved Irrad maps? In most cases, I use single frame exclusively. What I’m describing is something that would allow the GI to be calculated from a flat color and then the rendered object would have a texture map on it. For instance…
Say I have a sofa with a bitmap that’s primarily yellow with purple swirls all over it against a white wall. When VRay calculates the GI it could take samples of both yellow and purple from texture map on the sofa. If we have an override then we could say just sample the yellow as if the sofa was entirely yellow which would be good enough for me in the end and I think itcould speed things up a bit with a more complex scene.
On color bleed…
This wouldn’t be the same as telling VRay to just turn down the saturation of a bitmap for GI calc and then render the more saturated map. In my opinion it would be just as useful though. Take the same sofa as above and if the yellow is bleeding too much you could just set the override to a less saturated yellow.
