Just got the email that dongles for 1.5 will be available for pickup at siggraph. We have 3 licenses - do I go for 3 dongles (one per machine), or 1 dongle with three licenses, and plug this into the VRserver machine?
we went for 2 here (tho we currently only got 2 lics). But usually 1 is enough…but i thought having 2 would make things more flexible if needed. (so we can stuff additional lics on one dongle, and one holds only one single license in case we need one license mobile)

go for three…for sure…if i remember anything from the MAX dongles its that they can definetly fail. So the odds of all three going down at once are pretty slim…so at least if you lose one ya got two more.
Not to argue, but these are flashed based so just about indistructable that plus it will be possible to aquire a license over the internet if needed.

why would you need more than one license on a machine anyway?
The V-Ray license server will pick them up and distribute them in your local network, if want to use them as floating licenses. It’s more convenient than moving dongles around.

Pretty much confirmed this…
A single dongle will support mutiple license. So if you have 10 licenses you can add them all to that one dongle. You can also add additional licenses to that dongle (if lets say you buy more). Basically that dongle would sit on the license server.
I think the only restriction to it, is that you cannot “remove” licenses from it. For example, if you need a traveling license and you want to have a dongle that just carries a single license for your laptop for example. You would need an extra dongle with an extra license on it. When you are done using it on the road, you can add it to your network license by pluging it in the license server, which would now have 11 license (10 from the first dongle and 1 more for the second one).
I hate to have to admit it, but this dongle things got me all confused 
I’ve got one seat of Vray, so do I need:
a) 1 dongle, 1 license
b) 1 dongle, 11 licenses (for the render farm)
c) 11 dongles, 1 license on each
d) 1 dongle 1 license for workstation, 1 dongle 1 license for the laptop and 1 dongle 9 licenses for the render farm
or
e) None of the above? :?

did anyone receive email confirmation from chaos whether request for dongle was approved/ denied/ pending/ shipped or " no dongle available" etc? i havent received any, now i dont know the status of my request.

You should receive an email that confirms your request for a dongle. If you didn’t receive it, it may have been blocked by your email server/client. In any case, it would be best to email us at vray@chaosgroup.com, just in case.

I certainly hope the new dongles work better then the old ones!!! And if they don;t i certainly hope that we can get a licence over the internet. I realize things have changed technology has got better but i get a bit scared when i think about needing to get something rendered and out the door…then this thing kacks out and i have to wait for a licence or something. the clients…and the boss for that matter doesn;t want to hear about why something doesn;t work…its always “just get er’ done”. So for now i will be optimistically pessimistic.
Maybe i should throw my old max dongles away for good luck.
