Dirty old70 ' Plymouth GTX - [Unfinished]

I’ve been playing around with materials. In particular old and dirty. I grabbed a model from the Google Warehouse and textured it. Lots of different layers on each material.

I found quickly that the model had too few polygons as I found myself reworking and adding more and more details to the model. I felt it wasn’t worth it as this was just a texture testing, so I’m just leaving the model as is now.

Instead I’m now modelling a 69’ Charger in 3DS Max. Haven’t decided if I’ll render it in 3DS Max Mental Ray or take in into SU to render with V-Ray.

Re: Dirty old70 ’ Plymouth GTX -

materials look pretty good, still you can see the polys, but for a texture test i think its pretty good.

Re: Dirty old70 ’ Plymouth GTX -

hi thom, i feel like im being left behind (new job, too many deadlines to play) i know its a lame request but could you share this file? im interested in how you set up those head lights and ur visopt… can i get fries with that?

Re: Dirty old70 ’ Plymouth GTX -

Do you want to go SuperSize? The model is stuffed full with greasy fat textures. Going to be a large file. (Wish there was a packaging feature…)

When I first started out with this model it was only a small test so I threw all files into one folder. And the HDRI I used is 140MB, plus it’s a Dosch HDRI, so I can’t share that. But the rest is ok, I just need to sort them out first.

I based the headlights on the method described in this article: http://www.dmmultimedia.com/3dtips\_04b.htm
The map I created wasn’t great, it’s a bit of fiddling around to get the look you want. I’d recommend making the bumpmap in a vector graphic so you can quickly adjust the line thicknesses as that was a bit back and forth.

I’ve uploaded the vizop and the .skp at http://public.me.com/thomassen/V-Ray/70gtx/
Also put up the headlight bumpmap.
I’ll upload the supporting textures when I’ve sorted them out.

(having some problems uploading the .skp. atm…)

I hope you get more time for play. Deadline after deadline is no fun. I know.

Re: Dirty old70 ’ Plymouth GTX -

Thanx thom, as much as i love my job, consistant heavy deadlines is really taking the fun out of this, never enough time to really “finish” a job.

Re: Dirty old70 ’ Plymouth GTX -

Sad to hear. No fun when you’re surrounded with “good enough” mentality. If it doesn’t look like it’ll improve you should begin looking for a different place to work. Don’t settle for “good enough”.

Re: Dirty old70 ’ Plymouth GTX -

I think it looks good, other than the ground. Seems like it needs a little more depth. But great for a test image.

Re: Dirty old70 ’ Plymouth GTX -

Hey thom,
The headlights  looks awesome, and the rust texture.
I think the road and the tire marks need more work.
well done man

Re: Dirty old70 ’ Plymouth GTX -

Ok, textures uploaded to http://public.me.com/thomassen/V-Ray/70gtx/
Packaged thanks to Free Agent’s tip of enabling Asset Collection.

@40th: Thanks. Yes, the ground was some of the things I didn’t get around to work on. I have a road texture I intended to use which was much larger. Will use it for the next model.
