Yeah. Just make sure to never once report a bug, ask for a feature or need anything at all.
Else, whoever sold you the product for a 100$ is losing out.
I wish people were just as cavalier with their hourly rates.
/personal rant off
Well, to be fair, reporting bugs was part of why I thought we might get a discounted licence - to help with the harmonisation of Vray and Corona with regards to sharing lights, materials etc.
And feature requests, well, one imagines Chaos will always have an eye to whether itâs worth doing or not in general.
So youâd be trading actual working hours hunting bugs, preparing reports, submitting data, on a daily basis, for a discount?
It seems to me you are looking for trouble, in the shape of a *lot* of added work in exchange for a few pennies. ![]()
This said, beta testing has open and closed phases, and users are more than welcome to the open stage.
The closed phase is really much like a daily job, and am truly not sure a discount would make up for it.
And feature requests, well, one imagines Chaos will always have an eye to whether itâs worth doing or not in general.
Where âIn Generalâ is the keyword.
In particular, however, a *lot* of time is dedicated to individual clientsâ needs, be they big or small realities, to make sure they get the best out of the product.
It takes someoneâs time to read and answer to posts, to code new features, write the docs, do the QA, beta test, and finally release.
Now, donât get me wrong, itâs the name of the game, i am not complaining.
But those peopleâs time will have to be paid, and last i checked no one is paying Chaos a yearly sub to come up with new ideas.
People will, or will not, buy V-Ray (or Corona) based purely on the results of Chaosâ own investment of resources (in the form of talent, time, and money.).
And finding those three things, and marrying them together in a coherent, functioning whole isnât a given, but terribly hard a slog (which I didnât have to suffer. But someone has been through thick and thin.) with no certainty as to the results.
So, as users you have a stable, private, genuinely good company providing for great, daily growing products, and youâre asking to essentially be paid (in the form of a discount) to help out (to make the product you already use to good effect better. double your gain.).
See why i get to rant?
It smacks me of entitlement, thatâs all, and I really donât find the argument, as itâs thus far been presented, as being valid.
I have however *zero* clue, interest or influence into the sale politics of either camp, so hey, discounts may come regardless, i really would not know.
Both my posts here were written as a personal remark, read no company line into any of this.
Well it kind of doesnât matter does it? Either Iâm busy with work using VRAY, so Iâm not using Corona and thus not depriving them of a sale, or I am using it, and Iâm necessarily going through the process of converting scenes and gettign assets working in one or both.
So itâs win-win for everyone, or at the least, no-lose for everyone.
And also, everyone in this forum is either pointing pout bugs or fixing them usually. I even have a few of my own modest suggestions in VRAY as it is, as Iâm sure you do ![]()
Fair enough, but itâs not an insurmountable problem.
Chaos will know if I have my one workstation and 5 render nodes, plus a free corona licence, or whether Iâm, a major studio, and tailor their responses accordingly.
Sorry mate, youâve missed the point. Which kind of smacks of being patronising.
Firstly, I realise people have to be paid for their time. We are all business men here sp no need to state the obvious.
I am simply saying that, for those of us WHO ALREADY HAVE A VRAY LICENCE AND USE IT it could be beneficial to âdabbleâ with Corona. Itâs not a sale Chaos are losing, because we already have Vray.
Remember that bit? when I said that before?
So you have a group of people who are essentially the last group of people who are likely to buy Corona.
But what you do want to do, is keep them within the Chaos eco-system, and make the eco system flourish. So your opinions about beta testing aside - itâs an idea to let Vray users toy with Corona, because Chaos might get soem useful data out of it, while simultaneously not risking sales.
I mean - what part of the above are you struggling with?
if you want to âdabbleâ then whats wrong with the free version on the Corona site? Yes I know its an older version but still the same at the core as their literature points out. Or the fact you can pay 25 euros to dabble with it for 30 days⌠or Im sure if you sent them an email you could probably get a 30 day trialâŚ
**EDIT**
Right off of the Corona Site: This is the latest commercial release of Corona Renderer for 3ds Max. It comes in a universal installer which lets you activate Corona in both FairSaaS and Box license mode, or in the 45-day unlimited demo mode if you want to just try out Corona. The demo has no resolution limitations or watermarks, and you can even use it for commercial purposes. Corona works with 3ds Max 2012-2018.
I donât think we will have free Coca because we order KFC. Right? So why discounted for corona?
