Dispalcement Maps for Revit

Are displacement maps supported for revit in 2.9 enscape verson? or are they only functional in sketchup?

Seems that need to use non-PBR material template in Revit for material to make displacement work in Enscape. I like to use PBR- material templates based material in Revit, makes renderings looks better than materials based old templates. I wish someday Revit PBR-materials works with displacement maps in Enscape.

I give a try at displacement,

soo first It not displacement, it’s an improvement, at the bump, but the geometry doesn’t bump outside the texture,

It look 3dish inside the geometry,

got 4K texture, working perflectly with Maya ,

but the result is terrible under enscape and Revit,

second there is some distortion due to the camera angle, ?

is there any solution to this, ? tilling ? geometry size ?

right now I prefer using big bump ,

Displacement maps can also be used in Revit. Simply assign the displacement map to the Bump slot in Revit’s Material Editor and give the Amount a value above 500 which will implement the displacement function. Also, is there a chance you could send me that texture you’re using as displacement?

I’ve tied displacement in Revit as well an what I’ve found out is that it works, but it seems to be impossible to adjust the depth of displacement in reasonable way. Anything I got was extremely deep. I had thought it should go from minimal amount at 500 at Revit’s bump map slider to some extreme at 1000. I wasn’t able, however, to generate credible visualisation of brick wall with i.e. 5mm deep grouts.

Am I doing something wrong?

yeah that seems to be the problem, PBR materials do not let you reach the 500+ bump needed for displacement to work, in that case, anyone knows what is better to use in the PBR materials? a normal map or a displacement map

Hi adam p. There is but big problem. You are working with default material texture selection, but from revit 2019 there is possibility to add PBR textures in Revit as you can see in attached 1.jpg. Roughness and normal map possibility for example is new there.

But im bump selection there is problem with your ±500 to depth, becasue maximum depth value here is +254mm and not +500. But maybe will work just 254.

You can see in my second attached jpg i’ve created PBR stone material in Revit 2019 and set displacement map to Height map and set value for +254mm and result is quite good as you can see.

But with normal map active and not displacement i think it looks best.

I used Revit 2020.1 and below 500 the displacement do not appear

How do you manage to get 254 ?

There seems to indeed be a problem with the displacement maps stretching depending on camera angle: when looking along the positive Y axis, the displacement looks correct, but when rotating the camera to face the NEGATIVE Y axis, the displacement stretches incorrectly.

Fortunately this issue is restricted to the realtime viewport! When rendering out an image, the displacement is correct and not stretched.

There is still the issue of displacement being too strong with the minimum bump setting (500). Will this be fixed in the next version? Ideally we would like to use PBR materials and height maps from commercial texture packages, without having to do levels adjustment in Photoshop for each individual height map.

I’m having the opposite problem.

Trying to create a 100mm depth bar grating without introducing loads of geometry, the displacement appearance is perfect at 520 but if I add cutouts or transparency channels the appearance is ‘flattened’ back to 2D. I can cheat it by using self-illumination to give the appearance of light coming through the gaps, but has anyone found a way to keep the apparent depth with real holes?

I expect the time being a Enscape is not going to use displacement maps very well with Revit. Perhaps there is a useful workaround similar to applying video textures. But present workflow of using a value of 500 or greater with bump breaks other things and doesn’t give desired results.

I have been experimenting with this today as never tried using texture maps and displacement bumps and found the same, I was trying some gravel for a driveway and some external stonewall, I thought it ws something I was doing or that the textures I had downloaded where not much good.

Could anyone also suggest good sites for downloading textures and maps as most of the ones I found charged.

Thanks for the links guys, I will give them a go but I believe that the displacement maps don’t work at all well in Revit but have only tried the one myself.
