displacement map

I’m testing some samples of veneers with studio lightening and I was wondering how to create displacement map from original texture to have more realistic lacquer surface.

Texture:

De-saturate it and then play with contrast vs. brightness i’d say.

hmmm…I cant think of a situation, with that sort of surface, where displacement would be better then a bump map, but basically desaturate it and play with levels until you get what you want.

Well, a veneer would never have displacement, only bump… unless you’re going to put the camera in extreme closeup.

Thank you gays for your usefull tips. I already did some tests and bump works just fine for me, there are no extreme closeup going on there.
