Does anyone have any advice about creating DivX files. I have an animation I would like to play on a DivX compatible DVD player connected to a Widescreen TV. I have created several different video files AVI, Quicktimes, everything, (without audio) but non of them will run through the DivX Convertor without errors. (5022) to be precise. I have looked at Virtual Dub but I cant find any kind of option to save out for DivX.
I am running Windows Vista 64 which I am suspecting could be the problem…
Virtual Dub 1.7.6 - Joost. Thanks for the help. I cant actually see DivX displayed in the list. Is there something I have to do to ensure it appears in the list?
Also, on another note. I am looking at the Video Post option in Studio Max and choose open Sequence but its asking for VPX files? I have a jpeg sequence from 0 - 1000.
You can probebly tell I am very new to messing with video files/formats.
Ok, lol, new error. this has to be a Vista 64 problem…or..i’m stupid. When saving the AVI in Virtual Dub the following error occurs:-
“Unable to initialize the output codec. Check that the video codec is compatible with the output video frame size and that the settings are correct, or try a different one.”
I dont know if you need a special 64bit decoder, but you can check on http://www.free-codecs.com/ you have to install the codec.
I would recomend Xvid instead of Divx also.
i do know that virtual dub has a special 64 bit version.
as a side note; it would be better to output your sequence as png or tga, those are lossless, so you don’t compress your output twice, with possible loss of quality.
ok. after many hours of working out why I could’nt create simple DivX files I came to my conclusion. I can’t generate a DivX file with size set to 750px wide. It was fine when it was changed to 624 x 352px. It seems there must be a pixel limit to divx. I did’nt know. : ) And the information is not readily available. Jees…am I a novice??
