I was just curious I see metalness is supported, but do substance materials work easily/well in vray next just generally? It might be time to upgrade!
Yes, perfectly fine.
Are there any tutorials or indicators about how to properly link the exports from substance for proper vray rendering?
Try SubstancePainter-LiveLink
Do you mean ‘baking’ or exporting something else, when you say 'linking the export from substance?
If you export to texture (i.e. bake from substance) you just need to specify the workflow you’ve used (reflection/glossiness or metal/roughness) and then link the resulting textures in the same slots of the V-Ray Material. The only thing to keep in mind is that with the metalness/roughness workflow you’ll need to set reflection to white and enable ‘use roughness’ in the V-Ray Material and then pipe in the textures.
You can check this blog post on our website and see if it answers some questions: Understanding metalness
That’s a great blog post, and presumably now explains why previously it’s been necessary to cheat by overcranking IOR. With the new metalness attr set to 1, does this mean that physically correct IORs can be used on metal materials?
Yes, you can also find some examples in the table with materials and their settings in the blogpost.
There is a new plugin coming.
