Processors, to get 12 rendering threads, is it better to go dual 6 core Xeon 5660, or i7 - 980x extreme?

Yes processor matters massively. It is better to go with Dual Xeon 5660 than with an i7 980x. If you were going for a single processor then it would be advised to get the i7.
