hello,
As a new user of Vray (soon to be received) i’d like to know if he use both processor (Dual Xeon 2.4 Ghz 1 Go ram / Windows 2k SP4) for rendering?
If yes, how can it be configured to make it work?
Thanks for your answer!

Yes it is multithreaded, you don’t have to do a thing, if windows sees two procs V-Ray will too ![]()
And if your using a dual xeon with HT enabled you will see 4 buckets chaseing each other all over the render. I have a Dual 2.8 Xeon here and works like a charm and like RErender said you dont have to configure anything, V-Ray will use what ever you have.

cool ![]()
thank’s for answer and see you soon.

Wait a minute. Syclone1  I have dual Xeons with hyperthreading. and only have two buckets while rendering. Maybe I don’t have it enabled correctly. can anyone give instructions on how to turn on hyperthreading (both in windows and in Max)? And also, if you have 4 buckets rendering, are the rendering at half the speed as two buckets, or Does HT essentially cut rend time in half? ![]()
yeah i’d like to know as well … i also have the same, but i have turned Hyper on in the Bios but i still dont get 4 Buckets ?
Are you running XPpro or 2K? 2K has a 2 proc limit ![]()
Damn … that’ll be why .. thanks RErender
I’m running XP, where can I check too see if HT is enabled?
go into your Bios … F2 or delete at pc boot …you shoud find it in there.
wait a minute…when I was testing finalRender I was using win2k (same comp and specs as now that I’m using vray)…but FR rendered multithreded and dual propcs automatly (4 buckets)!!
while vray only does the two procs…so it can’t be that WIN2k has that limit…otherwise how come FR still used 4 buckets?!..plus I didn’t have to turn on/setup anything in the bios or anywhere else for FR to do 4 buckets…
so I wonder, if FR can use 4 buckets on a Win2k dual 2.8 ghz w/out any extra setups…why can’t vray???
paul.
check it:
http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33358
and
No athlon supports HT.
greetings, michael
edit: just open the taskmanager on your box, if there are four cpu diagrams, there will be four buckets in your image.
fR is probably just pretending to use the extra procs ![]()
hahhahahahahhahahaha…maybe it’s just fakeing it ???
![]()
hehehe…gee, I guess I can expect that from Edwin ![]()
paul.
dual 2.8 xeon with HT…flies, 4 buckets and all ![]()
Im not sure why or how fR is using 4 buckets in win2k but natively win2k does NOT support HT. To gain full benifits you must be running XPpro or win2k server. Also it does help to enable HT in your BIOS
if you are not sure how to do that consult your manual or your systems administrator.

*EDIT* on the question about the 2 extra buckets. There is a noticeable decrease in render time but as the extra buckets are only logical cpu’s its prob only about a 15% to 30% increase in performance depending on the scene.
Just to follow up, I enabled HT, and now have 4 buckets in Vray. and the particular scene I tested, rendered in half the time! 8)
Glad its working for you now ![]()

you must enable HT before installing the OS.
otherwise the OS won’t recognize it.
