There’s a totaly new exr saver in this connection extension. Does vray support “saving to scanlines” from it ?

It doesn’t save the render elements when using the V-Ray frame buffer. Is there something to do or am I missing something?
It works well if you use the normal max save dialog.
What is pretty nice is that now you can save directly the exr as scanline, and so speed up things a little bit in Nuke for post process !
Too bad it only works on 3dsmaxdesign 2010 and 2009. I guess i will have to update now…
What do you mean? It works fine here in every situation in which you do not use the V-Ray frame buffer, but as soon as you turn it on, only the rgba channels are saved. ![]()
It is like if the V-Ray frame buffer was catching all the passes and making them invisible to 3ds max.

This is quite on purpose and is done in order to save memory, so there is nothing to fix. You have to choose one or the other ![]()

That makes the vray frame buffer a bit less sexy! Couldn’t there be a hack to keep saving memory and be able to save the passes contained in the V-Ray frame buffer?
Or a checkbox to disable that optimisation?

but saving it out this way will mean a bit more memory consumption during the rendering process? so when dealing with memory intensive scenes rendering it out as tiled would be a good idea?
Yes, especially if you have many render elements - then rendering to tile-based exr files and disabling the memory frame buffer will reduce memory usage quite a lot.
