Double frames rendering on a sequence on 1.86

Hello team !
I was so exited to download the last 1.86 version that should solve that first wrong frame and double frames rendering while live link rendering, but for me it is even worst than the 1.85.
On 1.86 it render everyframes 2 times while on 1.85 i had the first frame wrong and some double frames.
I am working on a production right now and i would love to know how to fix this.
Do you have any idea of what i could do ?
thanks by advance.

Hi johan_hugele,

Is your scene heavy with many polygons? Does it happen on any other scene or this one specifically? Have you tried the same scene with a previous version and does the issue persists? If possible can you send us the scene for us to test?

Best regards,
Alexander

Hi again,
the scene is quite heavy but not that much (40 453 330 polygons), i join you an attached image of my 3dsmax screen and 2 small render of the animation.
There is some forest pack , 2 anima 4D people, some trees..
I tried this scene on the 1.85 and i had the first frame wrong and 2 time double frames.
on 1.86 i get eveyframe two time rendered.
I will try to pack you the scene for that you can test it. but it is about 5 GB with all asset, is that ok anyway ? and my internet connexion isnt very good …
and i will try on another scene right now to let you you if this happen the same issue.

5GB is fine if you could upload it to some file sharing service and share the link with Alex or create a ticket at https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new with a link to the forum

If it doesn’t take too much time, could you try repeating the render with the Anima people deleted and another with Anima people included but with Forest Pro objects deleted - so that we narrow things down. We have rendered other scenes with Anima and Forest without problems of course.

What are your CPU, GPU and disk drive(s) that hold the scene and asset files (any files on a network?)? Even the speed of this hardware could be important for reproducing the issue…

Ok i will try my best to sending the scene but it might takes fews hours to upload..
About my computer, here are the specs :

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX 32-Core Processor 96.0 Go RAM and RTX 4090 GAinward phantom.
All my asset are on a synolgy NAS with recent nas drive HDD.

But the scene ive tried, i had already copy every asset on my local computer and relink it all on a SSD drive and have that issue of double frame on 1.86.
I will also try to make the test you are talking about with anima or forest deleted and let you know the result as soon as i can .

Well i just did the test on the 1.86.
anima object deleted, same issue : some frames (but not every) are double rendered
forest object deleted , same issue : some frames (but not every) are double rendered
Anima and forest object deleted, same issue : some frames (but not every) are double rendered

I rendered 50 frames for each test and i get 4/5 frames rendered twice.

It seem that the problem isnt about forest or anima.

Thanks for testing and providing details. I asked about Anima and Forest specifically as we’ve had issues with these plugins previously. Lets hope the scene you share will help us reproduce the issue…

The problem here also persists.

In indoor scenes everything is ok. In outdoor scenes that contain vegetation it renders 1 frame and the next frame is rendered 2 times.

I could be wrong, but the problem seems to be in this new version of the script which only has the option to use the vantage UI.

I went back to version 1.8.4 which has no problems, and with the vantage 1.8.6 script the problem also happens in version 1.8.4

I did some more tests and the problem is in your new script. I copied the script from vantage 1.8.4 to 1.8.6 and the problem was solved. :sunglasses:

Hello Pablo_vinicius!
I’m really bad in scripting but I would love to try it to see if it solve the problem for me too.
Could you please explain me how to copy the 1.84 script to vantage 1.86?
Is it easy to do or does it need a good knowledge into scripting?
I would really appreciate if you have some time to explain me how to
That would make my day!
Have a nice day and thanks by advance.

It’s simple. I’ll leave the backup link for the vantage 1.8.4 scripts, just copy the files and replace those in the directory “C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\Vantage\dcc_scripts\3dsMax”

After that restart max.

Thanks a lot, I’ll try that tomorrow morning when I get back to work and I’ll let you know if that works for me to

Hello team and hello Pablo_vinicius
i just made some test with the 1.84 script copied to vantage 1.86 and everything seem to work correclty, no more double frames ! i feel so much better now
i did the test on 3 differents scenes without any problem, with anima 4d and forest pack, rendering 300 frames for each test.
Thanks again Pablo for your help, this made my day !
And thanks Team for developing Vantage, it is a lovely software !
Have a nice day

Hello, sorry for the inconvenience we’re trying to reproduce and fix the issue on our side at the moment.
Could you please check with a problematic scene (double frame rendering) if you get an “ERROR: Current frame in 3Ds Max requested again from Vantage for rendering: …” message in your MAXScript Listener dialog?

I run into the same problem where Vantage rendered double frames in a sequence. To problem occurs after ± 100 frames, the first frames are good. The problem is that the next frame is not loaded when the rendering of that frame is already started.

Workaround for me is to set more samples, so that you give vantage some time to update the frame.

Hi there.
I have same problems with duplicated frames with 1.8.6.
Please note that I’m working on a scene that I already rendered some days ago with 1.8.5 version and everything worked fine. I’m now trying to render the same scene with higher samples and I’m encountering the “duplicated frames issue”…

Hi, we found a potential problem in our script, but unfortunately we 're still unable to reproduce the double frame rendering on our side. A scene (demonstrating the problem) will be really helpful, if someone could send to us. I’m uploading an updated version of the new script with a potential fix, which you could also try:
Updated Vantage Live Link script link

Unfortunately I can’t share the file because it contains sensitive information from our client. But tonight I’m going to run a test with the new livelink script. See if the problem persists.

keep you updated!

Thanks Vladislav,

The new livelink script did the trick for me. I tried to render this scenes multiple times this week without succes. But with the new livelink script the scene is rendered successfully!

Thanks for the quick action from your side, appreciate it!
