When I try distributed rendering, only one out of 3 network machine is participating with the local one..
I get warning: Render host serverName (serverIP) is not responding.
also the one that is “working” is rendering buckets tiles that are ligther in color.
When I do regular network rendering with backburner I also get frames that are lighter in color. all 4 computer are working this way.
Mental ray render correctly on backburner. And my scene has no map. It is just a test scene. I am using mr lights in this scene cause I created it with mr at first. Could it be the cause of the color difference?
I made sure gamma and lut setting are the same on all computer.
I made sure every vray files I could think of were allowed by my firewall on each machine.
I found one part of my problem. the one about differently colored buckets which was due to unsupported standard raytraced shadow.
But I still have the problem of render host not responding on 2 computers. After launching several DR on of them started working but then stopped again… In my license info I am getting negative value for engaged network license and I get 16 license availble (when I am supposed to have 10…)
Max version 2010, OS - winxp 64 bit, network is 4 render machines with vraylauncher on each render node and one main workstation with the vray licence running. Dongle is on workstation computer and all render nodes point to the IP address of the workstation. Firewalls are off for each machine as I have a firewall on my internet router. I have a gigabit swtich connecting everything together.
Ive had to go back to sp3 though as my licence keeps failing
I love Vray and can’t wait to be able to use all my hardware power to render a single frame.
Something is telling me to buy a switch, I use a router and it may be interfering.
I tried with vray sp3a and I still have only one computer doing DR. (Always the same one…) the main difference with the other is that that one is a core 2 quad. instead of dual 8 core nehalem (2 computer) my fourth one is dual 4 core.
My problem was my 3D connexion spacepilot driver. a space pilot is a device to help navigate in 3d very usefull for 3d modeling.
but I had to rename those 2 files by adding .bak at the end to prevent them to load. on the render nodes:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2010\Scripts\Startup\3DxStudio.ms
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2010\stdplugs\3dxstd.dlu
And now it is finally working and it works very well. It is so fast!!! I can’t believe it!!
Thanks to Tania and her crew!
so there is an incompatibility with 3D connexion and Vray…
I had the same exact problem this month. Searched and found it to be 3D connexion drivers for max 2010 design. DR doesnt like that plugin and never seems to load the scene unless it’s deleted, renamed or uninstalled. This is not the first 3D connexion problem we’ve had. Doesnt look like the latest driver solves the issue either. When I get around to it I’ll email them about it. It’s a really hard problem to debug. I would have never guessed this was it.
My guess is that the connexsion splash screen causes max to crash when started in server mode as there is no UI for it to use. Wrapping the maxscript code in the 3DxStudio.ms with this fixes the issue:
if (not IsNetServer()) do
(
-- Existing Connexion code here --
)
