DR spawner does not work with 3ds Max 2009 and 3ds Max 2010 hotfixes

Hello,

There is a problem with the V-Ray spawner when installing the 3ds Max 2009 Hotfix from 6/7/2010 and the 3ds Max 2010 Hotfix from 6/8/2010. To fix these issues, please replace the vraydummy2009.xml and vraydummy2010.xml respectively in the root folder of 3ds Max with the attached versions.

Best regards,
Vlado

Very good to hear

Dear Vlado,

this solved our problems too. But now we can’t render any Proxys through the spawner. We use SP5 and max 2009 64 bit. Do you have a solution?

Thanks a lot

same problem, SP4 max 2010…:frowning:
regards,

Are you running the spawner as a service? Are the proxies loaded from a network location?

Best regards,
Vlado

All thigns just working fine until i have installed this ******* hotfix. Nothigns change in networks path, spawner is running as a service.
I’ve uninstalled the hotfix, replace the the vray dummy, what can i do now…i’ve got large images to render, what can i say to the client…

As a temporary solution, try copying the proxies locally to the machines and/or running the spawner manually from a user that is logged on to the render slave (you may need to stop the spawner that is already running as a service first).

Best regards,
Vlado

Dear Vlado,

we start the spawner manualy and the proxies are on the network.

Ok thanks Vlado, that’s Help.

Is this fixed? We’ve just moved our workstations to Win7 x64 so have reinstalled everything. Max has been installed with latest hotfix. Max is version 2009 x64, Vray is version 1.50.SP4a. All render nodes are XP64 (no hotfix applied to Nodes yet)

I had a problem with render nodes not having the Max Hotfix. DR jobs were going, but Backburner was not starting… Hotfix on the nodes fixed that.. so mabee you should install the hotfix everywhere to avoid future problems.

So did you need to upgrade the vraydummy file on each machine as well?

I seem to be having major problems with DR at the moment. My nodes are very very unstable. Been fine up until hotfix ‘3dsmax2009_64-bit_2010.06.07.msp’ has been installed. I’ve also run the latest vray installation on all machines, and then replaced ‘vraydummy2009.xml’ with the file supplied by Vlado at the beginning of this thread.

What’s going on. This is quite catastrophic. I don’t know weather its the hotfix or SP5 of Vray. I don’t even know if it is possible to uninstall the hotfix.

What do you mean by “unstable”?

Best regards,
Vlado

FYI: I just installed the hotfix along with the new spawner on all of my render nodes. DR was working fine but the installation of either the hotfix of the new spawner (probably the former) seems to have broke my groundwiz render node plugin as anything that used groundwiz, even just the variation texture, would not render in DR (that node would fail). A reinstall of groundwiz render node on each render slave seems to have fixed it.

I dont know for sure but I think this problem also occurs with Max 2011. Im not sure if its because of the recent SP1 update ? Vlado, can you provide an updated XML for max 2011 please.

Would it confuse vray if I had 2 spawners open..one for max 2010 and one for max 2011 ? Im not to fond of max 2011 at the moment and so mostly keep to max 2010 for my projects.

Update: If I stop the vray max 2010 spawner the max 2011 spawner seems fine. Can I not have both running at the same time ?

You can’t have both running at the same time unfortunately. It will work if you just keep the latest one open (i.e. 2011).

Best regards,
Vlado

Ok, I didnt realise that..thats probably why ive been having so many problems lately. Thanks
