DR'ing prepasses in SP3

Am I correct in thinking that I can now use DR to precalc the LC (in flythrough mode) and IRmap (in incremental add to current mode) with SP3?

So in a nutshell, I’ll be able to ‘quickly’ render the prepasses out and save them from my local machine after all the nodes have finished.

If this is correct, bravo.
If not, oh well, nevermind

where did you get that idea from?

nope def not for LC, maybe for IR, Vlado?

“(*) Support for the incremental modes of the irradiance map in distributed rendering;”

In the changelog. I could be misunderstanding things though - it is a Friday afterall!

From the changelog
(*) Support for the incremental modes of the irradiance map in distributed rendering;

You can calculate the irradiance map using DR, it works quite well, just set it to incremental add (multiframe incremental should work too). The Lightcache i think is still calculated on one pc. I tried it last week and it worked like a charm.

I think we posted at the same time! I guess the flythrough LC is calculated on each machine and then the irmap is a combined effort.

here for me it´s work perfekt.
LC doesnt work distributed, but the IM now work perfekt for precalculation in DR mode (Flythrough Animation)

So are you using brute force and irradiance map then?

i think the option you guys should be paying more attention to is the “use camera path” option. looks lovely

Now that DOES look interesting! When did that slip in there???

so I f I render a single frame using 4 Pcs what option would be the ideal one ?

Nir

That’s what I am wondering. My guess is the ‘use camera path’ option will work quicker and be ‘cleaner’ than the usual ‘add to incremental’ etc.

Yup, very interesting feature, i will test it over the weekend. Do i understand it correctly that i activate that option in both LC and IRR, activate “dont render final image” and simply render frame 0. Once its done i load the maps and render out the whole animation?

if its just a single frame then simply use DR, no need for an incremental add or camera path option - right?

So does “use camera path” work with moving objects, like an animated sun?
 please say yes.

Since nobody answered my question i wanted to report back that it seems to be the right workflow. I rendered one sequence the old way and another one with the use camera path option on and the result is the same, but the precalc time droped quite a bit

I rendered a single frame and time actually raised by 4 secs (small for a 6 minutes render)

NIR

So the full LC componant will still be rendered independantly on each of the computers, yes? But then when the IMap bit kicks in, it is rendered using all machines.

Cool.

I wouldnt use DR for a small preview, dont forget that vray has to shift all the scene data to all the slaves which can take some time. You will however notice a speed increase once you start a 4k render in high quality

Hi.

I’m trying to render the IR pass using DR but slaves only help on first image.
I already calculated LC to a file and I’m now calculating IR pass (every 12 frames) using DR.
The slaves help in the first frame but for the rest they don’t help at all.
It all seams to be working but salves don’t get to the point when they actually process.

Maybe they don’t have time because each frames begins to take less time to calculate but…since the scene is already loaded in the slaves it should be really fast…shouldn’t it?

The Vray message scrolls inumerous “sending 571036 bytes of irradiance map to…” very fast and stops 5 or 6 seconds after. It seams fast enought.

Then vray log shows the followinf in the slaves (pasted text at the end of the post)

It’s only when the workstation was finished the frame that the “server 192.168.0.2: starting frame 233” messages appear.
Frames range from 35 sec to 2 mins. 2 mins seams enough for slaves to start.

Is DR supposed to work in this situation?

Thanks
