Those X2’s really are a breakthrough product, when you look at the price-performance. A USD$500 chip out-performing a dual Zeon 3.4, impressive.
You are completely right Rhino. It is definitely impressive. And imagine X2 as mobile version in some laptop. That will be mobile rendering beast

The article above reads like you could just drop one of these new chips in an existing AMD Athlon motherboard. Could you slap two these in a dual opteron MB?
Nope- that’s what the Dual Core Opterons are for (the ones listed above are dual core Athlons)… I think the DC Opterons can go into preexisting socket 740s.

The 64-bit Opteron 4000s are already $800+… I would imagine the x2 will be 2x that.
Hoping prices take a dive in June when x2 hits the market.
