Has anyone tried to create the same effect as in this tutorial with Arnold?
Should be possible right?
How do you set up a shader to find the edges of a texture file and draw them as toon line?

What do you mean by this?
We cannot do this, but it sounds like a good idea. I’ve logged an improvement request (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-12097).
I have just purchased this online tutorial to see if I can copy or transfer the technique over but dont think it’s possible.
In the tutorial you can plug a texture into a utility node, then Arnold can trace any edges of the image into a toon line.
It’s such a cool effect. If we could get this it would be a great addition.
Based on the image alpha, I presume?
It looks like definitely the edge detection working in some way or another…Maybe this will work https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/arnold-for-cinema-4d-forum/toon-shader-edge-detection-on-self-shadows-tonemap-borders/td-p/11058034
Hmm, it’s possible. I’ll notify the project manager about the thread and we’ll see if it’s possible to implement something similar.
Absolutely brilliant thanks herit, it’s just a really nice effect and would open VRay to new line styles.
Many thanks for putting this forward.
