Emissive Material Lights add Directionality

Hello,

It would be amazing if we could get Directionality added to Emissive Materials. Often, we use these to show large lightbox graphics or LED wall installations and they don’t really provide enough light projection by themselves to look real in renderings. To work around this, we have to add a Plane light in front of them with the same image loaded so they project out some light. This is a time consuming extra step, especially when the client wants to see multiple graphics options. Would it be possible to have these emissive material lights project out more light by adding Directionality to them?

Thank you!

This would be a great feature.

On your multiple options for clients one method for this is to make your light textures be an image sequence. That way you can just render a few frames of “animation” to show then variants.

If you are already doing animations you can make longer clips of the light textures to make multiple versions of the animation with different textures, etc.

That said, this would be a nice feature for a lot of reasons. I guess at higher directionalities things might get a little weird (and noisy) with the rays diverging off of curved geometry. I bet it would make some cool effects, though, especially when combined with volumetrics.
