We have applied materials to a nice revit model and are messing around with VR setting to see how to maximize VR quality. Things look fantastic as we do a standard walkthrough. But as soon as we enable the headset, most materials wash out pretty bad and don’t look remotely close to the walkthrough. I’ve seen this a lot but just haven’t had the time to ask about this on this forum.
Are there settings to get around this? We have some descent hardware and can run the VR models pretty comfortably on the High resolution setting. We use an HTC Vive for our headset.
Hey @JBenny5781 , thanks a lot for your post and welcome to our forum!
This may generally be due to the fact that the HTC Vive has a high resolution screen, but it still has to be stretched over a rather large 90 degrees field of view when the headset is on your head. You’re probably also seeing the pixels in the headset itself, which is called “screen door effect” - this leads to a different output-quality when you compare VR with a non-VR walkthrough which is being displayed on a monitor.
You can gladly send us a few photos regarding how it looks like in the HTC Vive itself (it’s a bit tricky to take a photo of the screen inside the Vive, but possible) alongside a further screenshot how it looks like on your monitor. This way I can check if this is a normal behavior, or if maybe there is indeed an issue with Enscape which causes the materials to look washed out.
Also, if your machine is rather powerful, you could also try to increase the resolution of the headset a bit:
If it’s set to 100%, you can increase this value to see if that helps. You may run into performance issues though, so be aware that you’ll maybe have to lower the Rendering Quality, or set the Resolution to 100% again to get a smooth output.
