exponential fog and overbright materials

what’s up with ‘the material returned overbright or invalid color’ warning when using max exponential fog?

i’m using vray mats only, no pure white colors and i dont want to render a zdepth pass for the anim - does anyone know of a workaround?

it’s not that a fix is crucial for my anim, i’m just curious about why this is happening - it is kinda annoying…

keep in mind that fog from max lights up the scene like a lightsource.

it’s because fog has an overbright output, so vray handles it like a lightmaterial…

if its just a fog pass your doing without GI or anything like that then more than likely you might want to just go right ahead and simply use that method better known to those who are savy to such things as this as…what was i saying? oh yeah..just ignore the warning. hehe

aah, so the fog has an overbright output? that explains it, thanks maxxer.

when you mention it, i think i vaguely remember reading some thread about a way to clamp that output, think it was a script or something…i tried a quickie with a clamped color map, but hehe, that didn’t work

…and elf, i am not using any GI or anything, thanks to black voodoo magic vRayDirt - i love it!

for the moment ignorance is bliss, but i wonder what would happen if i were to use GI…

ah, i found the clamping thread, gotta try that one out tomorrow
