I learned in linguistics that this term was speculated to be derived from another language (dutch perhaps?) It was an non-negative term which meant breeding cows or some other type of livestock. Over centuries it became considered vulgar.

That word is ‘fokken’. ‘Iemand fokt koeien’ = someone breeds cows. Or ‘ik fok koeien’ = I breed cows. The word fuck is used a lot by dutch speaking youth, and is usually pronounced more like ‘fok’ then like the correct english pronounciation. That explains why you will see ‘fok you’ written on the back of bus seats or in graffitti painted on walls sometimes…
