Hello, dear Vantage developers.
I am a 3D artist using 3ds Max, and I frequently use the method of connecting a Falloff map to Opacity for my work.
I understand that this feature is not currently supported in Vantage.
While I’ve been using a workaround with Refraction, it has its limitations, especially when creating X-ray or transparent-looking scenes.
I’m writing to ask if there are any plans to support the use of a Falloff map in the Opacity channel in the future.
I believe this feature would allow for much more efficient workflows, and I truly look forward to its implementation.
Thank you for your hard work and consideration.
You can vote for it here : https://chaosvantage.ideas.aha.io/ideas/VANTAGE-I-231
Note that it’s unlikely that we will enable this for shadow rays - performance will be terrible if we do, so the falloff opacity won’t be visible in the shadows (the same is true for the current refraction workaround).

Can you be more specific what the limitations are ?

Thank you for your interest and for answering my question.
I am not sure if the attached images will be helpful for the explanation, but I have a comparison.
The two images at the top, labeled A, are renders from V-Ray Vantage. To achieve a semi-transparent material, I had to blend Refraction and Light materials.
In contrast, the human figure in image B at the bottom was rendered with V-Ray CPU. To create this scene, I simply applied a Falloff map to the Opacity channel.
I truly hope that the workflow I’m accustomed to in V-Ray CPU will be supported in V-Ray Vantage someday, as it would allow for a much more efficient process.
