now we will see what all this hype is about. ![]()
going out to all of us original vray users from the beta days. doesnt this helmet look exactly like that guys from the delphi forum?
Does it really have many more features than V-ray? To be honest I have not seen one stage-1 image that has impressed me yet.
I am not trying to slag off S-1 its just my opinion ![]()
Craig
mybe the artist are bad? ![]()
Oops I have soon one FR Stage-1 image that was really nice:
And another that I can’t find
All the beta testers can’t be bad artists
Craig
yeah but the lightning was made in PS and thats (imho) the only impressing thing in that image. ![]()
and the liquid was done with realflow probably and im sure the dark and bright areas are all photoshop post processing. thus you can thank fR for the raytrace material probably
as for more features. they have dispersion or whatever its called. and from what i saw on their site it sucks compaired to brazils dispersion.
they have a bunch of cameras which i look as as being totally useless. like the bug eye camera hahaha. They have hyperGI which to this day i havent seen a render time or an explanation as to why its different from normal GI or why its better than normal GI.
I dont see any other features they have that we dont…oh..the photoshop function is nice
finaltoon is nice too.
but we will see…
LOL
I heard from someone (I can’t say who) that it is still going to be a bit buggy when it is released
Craig
The only thing done using Stage-1 was indeed the water raytracing and some fR Volumetrics going on under water. Everything else including the lightning bolt, the DOF and the duotone coloration is either standard MAX or CorelPhotopaint indeed.
The water splash is modelled by the way, no fancy plugins here ![]()

I have no idea why it was used for the Stage-1 sneak preview gallery, but then again even discreet used it for some of their 3ds max 5 web ads, though it’s of course been done using MAX4 yet. Also it was on the cover of a korean 3D magazine, an issue focusing on fluid simulation techniques, even though -like mentioned before- there’s no fluid dynamics going on here.
So don’t blame me ![]()
Cheers!

Wonderfull image ![]()

Not trying to kiss ass or anything but it is one of the best 3D images I have seen in a long time… good effort!
Craig
yeah and it´s so much 3D in it. ![]()
Ok one of the best images full stop ![]()
definately one of my favorite 3d renderings…i’ve used it off and on for a desktop since i first saw it on the discreet forums
All jokes aside now, I say power to all render engine developers. As long as there’s choice there’s competition.
I’ve used a bucket full of different engines and all have their good and bad points in terms of my use and demands.
The days back on the Delphi forum were great due to the close and educational conversations which would run between VRay users and Brazil users, it rarely degraded to a mine’s bigger than yours debate.
Good point
I like the things I see in the screenshots of stage1, but I like it too much here to go back to fr.
i dunno, i’ll toy around with it and get back to you on whether its good or not.
all I want to see is rendertimes, dont you agree?
