Hello all!
I wanted to post my first scene with VfSU. Please critique hard, as this is how I learn best. I am new (using both about a week now) to VRAY and Sketchup.
The noise is killing me. Settings are QMC + LC
Any comments are helpful.

Re: First Post First Project
Looking quite good.
As you say the noise is very much present. One quick way around it would be to use Irradiance map instead of QMC.
If you want to use the QMC, then upping the Subdivs will reduce noise. But I think the QMC Sampler section might help as well.
On a sidenote, QMC is from the old VfSU version, are you still using that? Or are you like me and didn’t notice that after SR1 it’s DMC?
If you’re still using the old one I’d recommend you check out the new version. Much nicer workflow with that.
Re: First Post First Project
Thanks for the quick response. I have switched to ir map and in the process of rendering.
I am using 1.49.84. Is there an upgrade I missed? If it involves me spending money, that’s pretty much out of the question right now.

Update
I agree it’s faster and the noise is less, but what’s with all the blotches everywhere?

Re: First Post First Project
That number would be the version of the V-Ray render engine. Not the V-Ray for SketchUp plugin version. You find the version number in the Option window under About.
From the V-Ray engine number I believe you’re using the original release.

Re: First Post First Project
what’s your Irrandiance map settings? And what’s your QMC sampling settings?
Re: First Post First Project
I have upgraded and just a quick question.
Why does it take so long to calculate an image now before it starts rendering. My previous installation started within seconds, but this one takes 3-5 minutes before it starts it’s first pass.

Re: First Post First Project
The old one didn’t process the entire scene, it skipped lots of things, which is why it started faster.
Damien also mentioned in a thread that materials applied to groups and components instead of the geometry itself will slow it down.
