in the past week my max (2016) has begun occasionally hanging while saving a large scene.. at the same time, so probably related, if i try to open a second copy of max, it hangs at the splash screen and never loads. i find rebooting my machine seems to get things back to normal for a while. im not maxed out on ram or anything. specific pair of problems ever noticed by anyone else?
try rename the Enu folder to Enu_Old, then when you next start max it creates a fresh Enu and see if your problems disappear

if you updated with the latest gpu drivers you will see these kinds of crapping things happening, had to revert back two versions earlier
