Frank Gehry Metal

I don’t need this metal at the moment, but I did at some point in the past. I was very frustrated by it because it changes from the angle you see it from. I am still unsure if the best practice is to model it or bump it. Any thoughts?

By the way the image below is not a render, its a photograph used for reference.

If you mean the brick-like structure, then I would guess a good normal map should be sufficient.

There’s a Bertrand Benoit tutorial from a while back covering his approach to these same Frank Gehry scales. It’s still online if you’re interested.

Also this tutorial covers this topic:

Wow! that actually looks pretty good Fellazab. Thanks for the link. Rick I havent seen the tut, but ill look for it.

I found the tutorial: Frank Gehry-style titanium scales

@fellazb, It is the same tut you found. : )

When I have some free time I can’t wait to have a go.

I haven’t run into this material much in new buildings, It’s kind of old now. Allucobond and swisspearl metal panels is what is commonly used in my region.

However I am kind of liking this Ghery metal, I like the way it ages and its looking classic.
