i agree with rdg, maybe you should try using vrayfur rather than displacement
have never used vray fur but will definately look into it when I get a chance

Yep thats the real thing although my model isnt close at all more for testing displacement and now I am messing around with v ray fur
You can find vray fur in the create panel
select the object you want to fur and then go to create panel dropdown menu (where compound object RPC etc is) and you will see vray fur
The more I look at these guys the more I agree with cucible gangster. There is something scarey about the them, not something you want to get trapped in a dark alley with.
Got to play around with vray fur yesterday so heres a fluffy version.
