Future plans

Word is going around that phoenix is being abandoned. What are the plans moving forward? Can clients expect new features in the future? Or?

thank you

They won’t do the decent thing as long as income keeps dripping in. And frankly, some of that income gets distributed to the remaining decent people as well.

I’ve re-read this several times and still cannot make any sense out of it I’m afraid. What is the meaning, in a clearer way?

I can’t find any reference to its being abandoned in any case, so I’m very curious.

Let me put it this way: I’ve devoted over 25K hrs to Phoenix. I would never have left if there was even the slightest chance of us surviving the constant attacks we were under by our “own”.

Oh dear, not good. I can imagine how stressful that would have been.

Hi Svetlin, its an honor for your reply! You are the best. hope you are doing well! love from all the people that use Phoenix!

We will prevail

Being that these are the official forums, is there still no official news or an ETA on Phoenix for max 2026? At this point we’ve come to reluctantly accept that development is all but dead, but if we can at least get swift compatibility with the latest max that would be something.

have to agree with Alex…the lack of information coming from the devs is very worrying
where are the new features/innovations/bug fixes???
we’ll probably get the standard " we can’t discuss future plans" blah blah blah!!

:frowning:

Phoenix for 3ds Max 2026 builds are available in the nightlies here - Chaos

Phoenix for Maya 2026 builds are here - Chaos

Official builds are coming in the next few days.

Thank you for the update.

Hi, so simple question - is poenix still under active develeopment with new features or just compilations for new maya/max/… versions without any new features? Its realy a long time now on v5, v6 with new features would be nice. At least an info about further development or “end of life” should all the customers deserve. I still love it, but some answeres would be nice. Cheers

yes please an update

an update is the least we deserve.

I have recently (within a few weeks) heard directly from a Chaos employee that development of Phoenix is basically dead, other than to ensure compatibility with the latest max etc. A damned shame, and a waste, if this is true.

Just look at the insane progress happening with Liquigen. Chaos is a monster huge company. If they wanted, they could push Phoenix in all sorts of great ways - like speeding it up for one thing. But for whatever reason they’re disinterested. It becomes easier to take the foot off the gas once you buy out the competition and force everyone into bundle subscriptions. We’re seeing this across the board at Chaos.

They will simply lose 100% of those Phoenix customers to Liquigen once it’s more robust. Version 1.0 is due out any day now and it’s already in a usable state for certain specific tasks. Development is happening orders of magnitude faster there than at Chaos. The fact that it’s real-time is a complete game-changer too.

Now, if someone at Chaos wants to refute this and give all us paying customers a positive update, we are all ears.

liquigen isnt up for large scale sims as of yet, let alone handle the vast amount of splash and foam needed
I just hope that fumefx see this gap and gets busy with its flip fluids

It struggles in that area, as it does in many, being in alpha/1.0. But I guess it also depends what you mean by “large”. I’ve seen some very successful results on what I’d consider large scale sims. And that’s all in realtime. If you’re prepared to accept not being in realtime then the sky’s the limit, really. I think it also plays nicely (and is being actively developed to play nicely with other stuff) with exporting to other formats in order to handle things like foam and splash externally if preferred. One of the things I’ve enjoyed so much about it so far is the speed of development/testing compared to Phoenix. You can just trial-and-error your way through things in literal realtime. But yes, this is a product in its infancy compared to extremely mature PhoenixFD. But maturity means nothing if it simply is allowed to die. The ideal scenario for us as users is that all these packages compete.

fumeFX came back and is victorious. it hurts to see phoenix like this.

does anyone view these threads anhymore, i have asked the same thing twice and had no responses
