geof darrow

Hello! An image in tribute to the great artist Geof Darrow… sculpted in Zbrush, textures in Substance, rendered of course in Corona C4D… PS: I know this forum is dedicated to architecture, but hey, once in a while?

Nice image, but i think there’s some room for improvement. The biggest issue IMHO is composition, it’s just too busy. There’s so much going on that it’s hard to know where to look at. Maybe it would help if you’d separate foreground from the background by a DOF. Also the lighting, it’s too boring, too uniform. There’s no directionality, no deeper shadows that would help to draw viewer’s attention to the main subject. Overall the image is good, but i think you could and should to try to make it even better. And of course is always nice to see anything other than archviz in the gallery!

Thank you, Romullus! I would actually agree with you completely, except that I wanted to create a 3D pastiche of Darrow’s drawings… which creates an absolutely chaotic aesthetic, where it is difficult to identify any compositional norms… This post-modern approach is undoubtedly open to criticism, but it is very specific! Hence the numerous details and the even lighting throughout all parts of the image!

It’s not! It just so happens that users mostly post architecture.

I didn’t know anything about Geof Darrow, thanks for attaching example of his work. Perhaps i should’ve google it before commenting on your work :] Anyway, i think you took quite a challenge in trying to convert his graphic style from 2D to 3D and for that alone you already deserve my respect!

This work is architectural in its deeper sense, capturing/revealing the phantasmagorical zeitgeist.

Thanks for sharing and keep up the spirit.
