Geom_Light Test

Here is a test of the the Goe-light in Vray. I have to say that I am VERY impressed with this feature.

There are no other lights in the scene exept for the lamp shade. Also, no environment. Also, no work to the actual shade yet, just a light material for now.

rendering time ? there is some noise in the shadows

geometric lights need much higher subdivisions to achieve clean results

nice

Nice but you wanna use maxwell for this kind of stuff.

The image took 5 minutes to render at the default subs of 8. The IR was set to low, and only 200 subs for the LC. DMC set to 1/2

I have been testing this for stills, and I think it will work for “moody” type scenes. I have to say, from the tests (about 10) this works alot better than I thought it would when I read about it.

Mike

Here is another test with better settings.
IR set to med. LC set to 900. DMC set to 1/6. Subs on the geolight 32.
Still pretty fast, and almost clean enough for stills.

Mike

Looks good.

Going with Maxwell on that would take wildly longer and wouldn’t necessarily look any more realistic.

I love the quality that I have seen in there gallery, but for me personally, I dont have the patience for Maxwell.

correct and for most stuff you would be better off with VRAY. However you would have multilight which for this kind of scene would be invaluable.

What about this…
