Geometry not rendering right?

I posted this in my WIP thread in the image thread but it’s probably the wrong place I guess.

Not sure why I am getting this problem, I have upped the global subdivisions to 3, using the latest vray 1.5. Any ideas?

They are just standard evermotion models to save time so I know it’s not the geometry because i have used them on other projects.

Is there UVW mapping on those object? Looks wierd… :?
Anyway, how are the materials setup?

How does it look if you render with a grey material?

Best regards,
Vlado

Just standard vray material with glossy reflections. The plates and candles are evermotion models which I have used before an have always been fine.

This is how it looks when rendered with a greay override material, still the same problems.

Ok, one more test: if you disable all lights and GI and just render with the default light, what do you get (this is to figure out if the problem is really with the shadows, and not the materials)?

Vlado

Here it is, just default lighting.

OK then, this can happen if those objects are far from the scene origin (0,0,0), you can try to move them closer and see if it helps.

Worked a treat, thanks for your quick response it’s appreciated.

Are you talking about the bright areas beneath the plates? We are having this too! We aren’t too far from the origin - only 10m or so in x and y. The lights are standard Max lights with vray area shadows, but they seem to ‘see through’ some of the objects in a similar way.

EDIT: It appears turining the bias to 0.0 sorts things out for us. What is this ‘bias’ all about and why doesn’t it default to 0.0?
