Hi!
I’m rendering some products (modeled in Sketchup), and when I attempt to make the bottle transparent using the Enscape Material Editor’s “Glass” material, weird vertical lines show up in my rendering.
Here are the steps I’m taking:
-
I added the label to the bottle in Sketchup by importing the label image as a texture and applying it to the bottle.
-
Then, to add transparency to the bottle, I went to the Enscape Material Editor and set that specific texture to the “Glass” material type
-
In Enscape, this causes vertical lines to appear around the circumference of the bottle. The lines align perfectly with where the lines would be in Sketchup if I check “show hidden geometry”, so I’m thinking that Enscape is somehow dividing up the different hidden faces.
If someone can tell me how to fix this, I would really appreciate it! I
Thanks so much!!
Is it because Enscape doesn’t support projected textures?
@adam_fairclough - Thanks for your reply! I actually don’t have the texture set to “Projected” in Sketchup, but I just read that Enscape does support projected textures, so I’m not sure that’s it. Pretty confusing though, and I can’t find any info about this issue anywhere online.
@happymilk_2 - Thank you for your response! That’s really interesting!
The only issue I’ve run into with Z-figting is when a face has no depth, then a texture applied to that face won’t show up all the way unless you give the face a tiny bit of depth. And this feels like a similar issue, how the texture is not showing up in certain areas when I move the model around, so you might be onto something! Only thing is that the issue I mentioned above happens within Sketchup, and my issue isn’t appearing in Sketchup (the model looks perfect there)… it’s only showing up in Enscape.
And I appreciate the wiki page you sent, although it’s a bit over my head, and it doesn’t give me any ideas on how I might fix the issue. Is there any other light you can shed on how Z-fighting might be causing this issue (hopefully in layman’s terms)? And do you have any ideas on how I might be able to fix it? Like maybe I need to pull each unique face out by .001" or something… but it seems like doing that would make the lines more prominent, if anything… so I’m totally lost.
Any other thoughts or ideas you might have would be extremely helpful! And thanks again!!
Sorry, specifically UVW projected textures, which I know SketchUp uses in a few places.
it doesn’t actually do the same for me

Try updating your graphics card drivers.
@adam_fairclough - I just updated my laptop to the latest MacOS version, which should have updated my graphics card drivers automatically, but when I log back into Sketchup and run Enscape, the lines are still appearing in my rendering.
Are you using a PC? I’m wondering if maybe it’s a Mac vs. PC issue. Or can you think of any other reason why you’d be able to produce a perfect rendering on your end, while mine turns out glitchy?
Also - THANK YOU for your help!!
Hi @kristikautz , at this point just so you know, you can also feel free to forward this inquiry (or any others) to one of our Mac experts directly as detailed here (through our official support channels). We will then troubleshoot the exact cause behind this behavior on your Mac further accordingly and get back to you again soon.
Feel free to attach the link to your project once more or simply include a link to this thread for reference in the submission form of either a support report or help center request. Again, just so you’re aware and thanks a lot in advance!
@Demian_Gutberlet Oh, I didn’t realize I could do that! Thank you!! Will do.
