global subdivs multiplier

Does this setting also affect IR map hsph subdivs?

If it does not really affect every setting with ‘subdivs’ in it’s name, please tell me

Regards,

wouter

Its doesnt affect the Imap … just the QMC…

example QMC global subdivs multiplier set to 0.1

set to 1.0

set to 2.0

in all cases the Imap does not change…

But i believe it does affect the light subdivs if you have a light set to not store with Imap… as this will be part of the QMC …

But QMC-settings affect the irradiance calculation speed and quality a lot!

Yes I tried some stuff too.

IR map goes from 20 to 4sec when I change the global multi from 1.0 to 0.1

Lightmap calculation speed isn’t affected by the global subdivs multiplier.

Yeah, I’d like to hear from Vlado which settings are affected by this global multiplier and which not.

so for your test do you use QMC still for your second bounce ?

No nothing in second bounce.

wouter

mmm …yes just done some further test and it does seem to affect the imap.. But more the direct light than the Imap. Set the Global subdivs to 0.0 … then just have imap calc only … see what happens …

first bounce only as imap… QMC set to 0.0

QMC set to 0.0… showing direct light

QMC set to 1.0… showing direct light

QMC set to 1.0… showing imap

The global subdivs multiplier affects everything, except for the lightmap, photon map, caustics and aa.

That means that it affects dof, moblur, irradiance map, qmc GI, area lights, area shadows, glossy reflections/refractions.

Best regards,
Vlado

cool …thanks Vlado ..

So maybe it is good to add this to the manual, because it says:

Global subdivs multiplier - this will multiply all subdivs values everywhere during rendering; you can use this to quickly increase/decrease sampling quality everywhere.

A more extensive user guide is needed i think … perhaps someone should team up with the chaos boy’s and make some money …i mean a book…
