glow and neon in vray maya

Hey there,
Do anyone knows how to make a glow object in vray maya ? a kind of vraymtaerial light+glow around it?

Didier

If you use the nightly builds, there are lens effects in the V-Ray VFB for glow/glare. For the official builds, it might be best to add these effects in a compositing application.

Best regards,
Vlado

thx vlado,
I ll get the version ASAP and let you know how it goes

Hey Vlado,
My pipeline td is asking if we where we could get access to the nightly build for One Of Us ( we are clients of chaos group ).

Yes, please email us to vraymaya@chaosgroup.com and our support guys will arrange it.

Best regards,
Vlado

Vlado,

can we expect this stable nightly 2.1 release to have the glow/glare feature in it…
vray_adv_21001_maya2012_linux_x64_21575.rar

Or should we be using this more nightly…
vray_adv_22501_maya2012_linux_x64_21613.rar

Thanks

For now the lens effects can be found only in the nightly builds.

Unfortunately, no. The feature required quite a few changes to our VFB code and I can’t merge it safely into the current stable builds.

Or should we be using this more nightly…These will work, but of course they might not be as stable…

Best regards,
Vlado

Hey!
I got some trouble to connect object to environment fog like in the documentation:

Is it possible that someone explain me how to use and object as a gizmo with envfog in maya vray?

Didier

You can download the actual scene from the link here: Chaos: Industry-leading design and visualization software
Basically you need to set “Opacity map” option of the geometry (which you will use as a gizmo) shader to black and set “VRayEnvironmentFog” node in the “Volume Material” slot of its shading group.

The other option, which might work better if the camera goes inside the gizmo is to use the Relationship editor to link the VRayEnvironmentFog to the objects that you want to use as gizmos.

Best regards,
Vlado

thank you , but actually , Im using Maya, not max… Do u have the same scene in maya vray?

Here is a simple example scene. The yellow cube is done by setting the VRayEnvironmentFog via the sahding group of the geometry material and the red one via the Relationship editor.
I hope that helps.

thanbk you very much!

Hi,

i have the glow working in the vray frame buffer
but is there a way to have it as a render element in batch rendering?
glow and bloom doesnt come up in the render element list and also is not renderer as a seperate pass.
tx

We made a note about that.
Thank you for your feedback.

Hi Zdravko,

Do you know if the VRaySky material should be taken into consideration for the bloom/glare mask? When I activate the bloom or glare mask, it seems VRaySky never is apart of this.

I was hoping to achieve a similar result to Jeff Patton in 3ds Max:

http://jeffpatton.net/

Both Glare and Bloom effects are done after rendering, therefore all of the information in the output is taken into account, VRaySky as well.
If you find it difficult to achieve that effect, you can share the scene that you are working on or send it to: support@chaosgroup.com so we could help you out with it.

Thanks Zdravko, but what I mean is that V-Ray doesn’t seem to take V-Ray Sky into the glare/bloom mask for Maya?

As attached, the sky should register in the bloom/glare mask as the ground and top of the building is? No matter the setting I use, the sky mask always is black.

You are right, it’s not included in the intensity mask - it’s probably something that we should fix. On the other hand, Jeff Patton did not use the masks, I think.

Best regards,
Vlado
