answering a few questions:
the original resolution is 3500x2333…
and i am aware that gpu is not necessary to get a good image but it makes just so much more fun, seriously!
i am not sure what you mean by change scene. i set it to production rendering gpu, setup dr and 1 hour rendertime and then i go for lunch…
I agree with Tricky. Every time I’ve gone to use RT (for GPU, either OpenCL or CUDA) it’s screwed up in some way, and the list of supported features is pretty short. Mind you it’s not enough for me to move to MR/IRay or Octane.
At this time, the most complete GPU renderer is Arion.
Octane4max integrated in max, is under envelope by Karba and it’s like an alpha/beta stage.
IRay is like VRay-RT. Young and not ready for a professional arch-viz production.

Yes, like all the RT engine. But Arion is very, very complete. Iray, VRay, Arion, Octane, for a professional works (speed) we need 6-8 GPU today. Less is not possible, or difficult.
nlo, one of the images has a lot of grain in it, is that the grain which was unresolved by the gpu after 1 hour? It just goes to show me that the rt can be faster. 6 gtx 580, is a lot of computing power, I would expect an image like this to be completed in some minutes? maybe I’m just expecting too much out of it ![]()
