Nice. Is that a volumetric light or a post effect?
Love the style of your picture gallery btw. Very fast!
I love it!
Very simple… very nice…
I really love your work…
Best regards…
Yeah how’d you do it, ive been messing around trying to get volume light coming through some trees but gave up. And my PS attempt looked pants.
And greebles, its a plugin? I dont really know what im looking at!

The max 9 version works for 2008.
Greebles are fun, but can i ask Richard why you do so many, testing perposes, client renders, or just 3D madness ?
nice image .. ![]()
yes nice render, really nice but I not understund what is greebles; only for GI test?
That means nipples are greebles hahahahahaha awesome, nipples rock therefore i must now like greebles!
yeeeeahhhhh Greebles is coooooooolll ![]()
nice volume light!
hi !
Very nice i very like volume light but you made in vray ?
If yes please say how if you can of course ![]()
Very Nice. I like the colors.
Hey guys;
I do the Greeble stuff just cause I love the results of the very fine detailed shading. I find it to be a gorgeous application for abstract artwork. And of course, it has so many possibilities that you can never run out of ideas.
Originally, I DID use them for GI testing - it’s great for testing speed and quality. Artefacts show up in creases with some rendering engines ![]()
As for the technical stuff, it’s just simple layers - volumetric is simply done with scanline renderer. There are probably around 12 layers - glows, optical color effects, speculars, shadows, etc. It’s mainly playing with lighting.
The visible grain is due to the levels which I had to boost (too much).

ahh greeble, sweet
Has a nice look to it! The lens flares though, seem to be coming from odd directions though?
Hope you don’t mind me posting this, I had to have a go and I wanted to say thank you for giving me a very enjoyable afternoon!!! Loving the Greeble and the others here reckon we’re just missing Lara Croft. You reckon she’ll do the honours and jump right in??? ![]()
PS I used VRAY and used a direct light but with shadow map rather than VRAY shadows ticked to get the volume lights to work, is this how you did it or did you use the full scanline render?
Yeah, I used shadow map as well for volumetric. It seems that 3dsmax raytraced is the only other type that works but apparently the results are better with good old shadow maps. I think this is because the volumetric feature was always meant to be used with shadow maps so it has been optimized for that.
Nice image. You can also get a very interesting effect by putting a Turbosmooth on Greeble and this will turn your geo into spheres… lot’s of them. ![]()

P.S. I might do more this weekend - got me excited again…
