You could potentially try downloading the Stanford .ply models and converting them over to .obj (or something else) via Online 3D Model Converter.
I think it worked for me when I wanted to use the Stanford Dragon.
There’s a ply importer available from guruware, and it’s free. Look it up on maxplugins.de
