Hardanger Retreat Summer House, Norway

I based this image on the summerhouse created by Saunders Architecture. Images of the real thing can be found at: [http://architecturelab.net/hardanger-retreat-summer-house-norway-by-saunders-architecture-15103/

I](http://architecturelab.net/hardanger-retreat-summer-house-norway-by-saunders-architecture-15103/) wanted to give a late summers day feel with warmth, seclusion and calm.

Please let me know what you think. This image took ages to do in between jobs. All trees were made with growfx. Ivy was growfx. I have other angles and lighting to do but have yet to render them out. I wanted to get this one up to get the ball rolling

beautiful! I love the subtle use of DOF.

Great image. I’d love to be sitting on the deck there. Nice fog too

Nice work Steve. Great composition and lighting. So much detail to take in, it’s worth taking the time to explore every little part of the image.
My only comment would be that it’s a little grey/gloomy overall. A slight lift of the highlights would really make it pop and bring out the translucency on the vegetation.
But that’s being very picky.

this is an impressive piece of work, will be looking forward for the other views.

Just updated this with a lighting pass.

finally Steve  Awesome work ! Where’s interior !?

ps. growfx can do ivy? it’s on my to buy list

Hi Luke. I’m modelling and rendering as I go so I will be updating the interior as soon as I can. Im still getting the exterior right for the other angle outside. I’ll upload them both soon I promise

i d love to have some time to play with grow FX…heard its got quite steep learning curve…so i guess i will be adding it to my “to buy and learn” list
great work BTW! congrats!

Hi,
Nice work - I agree with Dejavue’s crit.

there’s quite a lot of tutorials on their website so shouldn’t be that bad

i know…but the time is my enemy in this case

Thanks for the comments. I’ve uploaded a new render of the same scene set at dusk and with an oil lamp on in the small enclosure. I added the chairs to the scene and used growfx for the ivy around the chair leg and arm. I used floor generator for the main decking and used the multiexture with some modified rough wood textures from cgtextures. Colour correction was done in aftereffects. I bring in exr images to aftereffects and add effects etc in 32 bit colour. I also add other passes in 32 bit mode if required. Would appreciate feedback on the dusk scene…ta

Wow, 336 views and only a handful of replies. Could do with some comments about the dusk image..does anyone like this ?

I don’t feel all that competent to comment on the technical aspects, but I do very much like both images. I love the tension in the dusk image, and is a nice contrast with the first one. The ferns in the tree trunk are a nice touch. Lighting is excellent.

Steven

Day shot is very good. But to be honest , regarding dusk I prefered the one you showed me personally (there was dof and concrete with dead leaves)

Very nice. The afternoon shot is my favourite. Great mist effect.

I personally didn’t like the leaves…I felt they looked odd. The concrete…are you talking about the main decking ? That was supposed to be wood panels…hehe
