Have you seen the new physical sky in maxwell

Playing with the white balance in camera is great, but quite impredictible and most of time not usable in architectural render, but it would be cool if we could have an “Abel Ferrara” look in our picture, because even if the hdri still ok , I preffer use the vraysky, and i’m getting tired of the typical sunrise identical to the sunset, or the plein sun of the afternoon.
This update would be amazing…
Thaanksss

I have seen “miami vice” and “king of New york”, two days ago on a projector, I might say that mikael Mann movie are so colorful too, i read about is new sony cam F23, and it look that there is too option in is workflow (the sony LOG whicth is a post-process and there is also the Hyper gamma 3 which is directly incorporated in the cam (http://www.sony.fr/biz/view/ShowContent.action?site=biz\_fr\_FR&contentId=1219910874176)

There are no updates to the sky planned for SP3, but this may happen futher on. In the mean time you can get amazing procedural HDRI skies (along with clouds) for use with the Dome light from programs such as Terragen (Planetside Software – The home of Terragen – Photorealistic 3D environment design and rendering software.) - they are much more advanced than we could possibly do in V-Ray.

Best regards,
Vlado

nice

Terragen is nice, thanks. I have seen the http://www.skytimelapses.com/2008Demo7.2.360h.mov too, and i remember the http://gl.ict.usc.edu/Films/Parthenon/film.php (i remember that all the hdri used for this animation were avalaible, but never knew how to load them one after the other automatically, by hand would haave take some time…). Maybe in the future SP4? the skysystem add would be like an -ies preset, that allow to share sky settings…
Thanks for your answer.
Bye

actually if i remember correctly vlado had mentioned that if you want to use hdri sequence, you need to generate a .ifl file and load that into the vray hdri, and the frames will be read then.

Thanks, i will try it then.

Best

gael

so to use terragen with vray, one would render a 360 image at several camera stops and make that into a HDR image?

Is there any way of getting the actual terrain into max?

You could simply render a HDRI from terragen couldnt you ?

Regards,
Thorsten

yeah i rendered this to exr format - took 10 mins to put together and 30 mins to render… pretty simple program.

There’s this plugin for Lightwave that does skies. He’s worked on it over time and added new things, and if I remember correctly it has similar params to that new Maxwell sky.

Morbid is right on the money here.
I have used an HDR sequence to do day to night animations and it works really well
