Let me explain my problem and fear. In my Enscape, I can create custom assets, but if I edit them, the asset disappears and is completely deleted.
Support suggested that the problem must be that I saved the asset folder on OneDrive.
I created 3,000 custom assets. I’m very worried about changing the folder.
I hope it can be done. In fact, if you change your PC, you’ll need to install Enscape with a new asset location.
Does anyone have an asset folder on OneDrive or Google Drive, etc.?
Has anyone ever tried changing the asset folder and specifying the folder on the local hard drive?
If you change the folder, does Enscape read the custom assets immediately?
Does the new Asset Chosmo read all your Custom Assets?
Excuse me, but for me it’s vital because 3,000 assets are incredibly valuable. I’ve reduced processing time by 90% because, for example, I already have sofas in different sizes and colors that I can add in 1 second.
I’d like to hear about your experiences and if you could kindly tell me the procedure for changing the Custom Assets folder.
Thank you.
NB:
The renders I see are beautiful, and I see a lot of use of Custom Assets. Is it possible that so many people don’t save them? Am I the only crazy person who created 3,000 assets?
Have you tried just copying them to a local drive? And pointing the asset path to the new folder? You don’t have to delete them from OneDrive and you can always change the path back. But I would never count on OneDrive or any cloud service to store those, too many questions with how things are pathed.
We repath fairly often to different network locations, drag assets around for different projects, usually seems to work fine.
The Cosmos interface does not seem to be integrated with custom assets at all, those still work the same as always, i wouldn’t be concerned with Cosmos breaking them.
First of all, thank you, you were very kind to respond. Yes, apparently, as support says, it’s best to avoid OneDrive, although it seems strange that I can create new assets but simply can’t edit them. Of course, I won’t delete them on OneDrive, I’ll keep them as a backup.
I still have to try copying them to the hard drive. So when I move them to the hard drive, I restart Enscape and everything works?
Final question: What do you mean by Cosmos not being integrated for custom assets?
I’m very careful about custom assets because they can be a hassle in rendering.
Yes — when you copy your assets from OneDrive to a local folder on your hard drive, then restart Enscape, everything should work smoothly. OneDrive’s syncing often causes permission or path-access issues, which explains why you can create assets but not edit them.
As for Cosmos not being integrated for custom assets — that simply means the Cosmos library (Enscape’s built-in online 3D assets) doesn’t automatically manage or recognize your own custom assets. You can still import and use custom assets, but they won’t show up inside the Cosmos interface — they’re handled separately via the Custom Asset Library in Enscape.
And you’re totally right — being cautious is smart! Custom assets can impact performance or cause missing links if paths aren’t consistent, so keeping them in a stable, local directory is the best approach.
