High CPU Temperature

I don’t know a lot about building PCs, but just had a new computer built for me and the CPU temperature seems to shoot up to 90-95 celsius when rendering. Is this normal? What could be causing this?

The fan at the top of the cabinet doesn’t seem to be moving?

Kraken x53 is more than enough to cool 3950X. The rendering temperature should be about 80C in 25C room ambient. So there are two possible options:

  1. The cooler is not mounted correctly. The pressure is critical, if the contact is not perfect, you can lose easily 50perc. of performance.
  2. The fans are not connected properly? You can use HW_iNFO or HW_Monitor to check fans speed during rendering. They should be about 1000 RPM at least during rendering.

Thanks, will see if I can check the mounting.

Fan looks like it’s moving on the Nzxt Cam software and air coming out feels cold. Room is very cold, well below 25C.

Stays around 85 at 4% load when not rendering…

So, turns out that although the Nzxt Cam software said that the fans were running, they weren’t. Fan on top of the case and the ones linked to the Kraken cooler weren’t running!
