I’m getting a strange highlight in areas (kind of an over sharpening effect)

any ideas?
This is due to having very bright highlights combined with a sharpening filtercurves (wich have values below 0 in their curve range and hence cause the black borders). You can either oversample and get rid of the sharpening filter or check “Subpixelmapping” and “clamp output”
