you should know that two swiss artists Mr. Fishli & Mr. Weiss, are the first in the middle of the eightys who creat this kind of installation.
i saw their film 20 years ago on television and could not belief it! the film is called “der lauf der dinge” (sorry my bad english, but something like “as things are going”) and it´s an amazing film, you would not belive even when you see it. the had an old faktory, a space of 200 meters or more where the arrange a lot of industrial and civilisation garbage wich interakts in this way. the film is 20 or 30 minutes long and as i heard, the have only 2 or 3 cuts where the aktion stops. the archetype of this film is much more funny then hondas remake and nearly everything is borrowed by them. it is a realy low bugdet poduktion whith much more different and surprising aktion, not only phisikal aktion like in the comercial. a board whitch is fallling- pushs a ladder-the ladder makes two steps forward to cut a rope and brings a hanging nail to fall - on a toy car with an blown balon gaffered on his top- the air disapers and bring the toycar on speed - crashing in a glas with liquid -the liquid runs out -droping in an other box with a second liquid - react - flames - burning some -styrofoam - wich hold something in balance and so on and on and on - unbeliveable! sometimes you think it´s on the end like dead, an in the next moment chain reaktion starts again in this absurd enviroment - realy fantastic - you must see it if you ever have the posibility.
but i am realy laughing when i read that hond spends so much money.
i think fishly&weiss had maby 6.000 dollars, but i don´t know.
i would know, if honda ask the artists to get the rights, but i´m sure, the both are realy famous!
so, if you have ever the chance to see this film - watch it - it´s amazing
and gives the next reaction

I always liked the Rube Goldberg books when I was a kid :lol: I could spen hours looking at them over and over.
I’ve seen this commercial before and it is very good.
However, has anyone ever wondered how the three tires can roll UPHILL at that slow speed and NOT lose inertia??? (Take a closer look.:))

PS: the probably could’ve saved a lot of money by doing it in cg…
If you look really really carefully they appear to be weighted to allow them to travel uphill. When the tire rests you catch a glimpse of it rocking back and forward slightly.

im no guru…but wheels just dont roll uphill especially with just a little push…i say its cg and a little help of Einstein.
No CG, just weights.
I think it would be harder to set up as a simulation than to do it in real life - I’m a believer 
really??..I think that given to the right/experienced people/studio it probably could be done fairly accuratly and cheaper then the 600+ takes it took them to do…but I guess anything goes in the end…

On the writeup that I read about the setup, they taped large bolts to the inside of the tires to get them to roll up hill. If I can find the article again Ill post the url.

So you are a skeptic? look at all the secondary reactions especially where the object slides down the bent wire , the wobble in the muffler as it spins, not to mention the pouring of the oil, they look too right for me to believe they were faked. Your right though they could get close for a lot less
no, I’m not saying I don’t believe it’s real…I do think it’s real.
I just think that if they would’ve gone with the cg alternative they probably could’ve spent less money on it…but it would’ve have to be some very experinced animators and physics simulation guys to pull it off and make it believeble…
