I struggled the whole weekend with a displacement problem. I’m using some mixed TriPlanars and the result is that the mesh gets torn, thousands of (micro) holes. I tried to fiddle around with these options:
- With and without displacement shift (small negative values)
- Displacement edge length
- Normals in all variations
- Cranking up the base resolution of the mesh to insane values
- Used only 1 TriPlanar (no mix of many) and set the texture blur to 1 to get that smoothed out
The only thing that works: Lowering the resolution of the mesh and smoothing it out while loosing too much detail. That is not an option. So how can I get rid of this?
Excuse us for the delayed response.
I have investigated you scene and made similar setup in 3dsMax for comparison.
Could approve the following:
the white artifacts are visible, yes
normals are okay
with other displacement textures the artifacts are seen, but in different amount
decreasing the Displacement amount will limit the artifacts
converting the geo to other formats could also limit the artifacts
In conclusion, details about the geo will be highly appreciated - its creation process or where it is gathered from.
If it’s made by you through a simulation, please share with us the .hip again by e-mail and use V-Ray > Pack Scene.
The geometry type, scale and units have to be considered once more to define the issue.
In addition, I have logged it in our system for further investigation.
Hope it won’t cause you any inconvenience to share the requested above.
I hit the similar issue with Vray 7.20.10 for Houdni Solaris 19.5.605.
In my case, turning off Motion blur is the solution but I don’t want to turn it off so am looking for the other solution, then found this post.
