Hi all,
I’ve been using V-Ray for some time, but we usually render small objects.
This time I need to render a train and it shouldl look somewhat like the one I’m linking.
I think we’ll have to use the Angular Blend to get that shiny/reflective white body color, but I’m really having a hard time getting it right.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi
For the illumination you should use an HDRI. The material of the train body could be just a white diffuse color (230 or 240) with a reflection layer, with fresnel. I think you could use between 1.55 - 2 for the IOR value. The nice reflection on that image is produced by the HDRI. The effect of the motion blur, you can do it in photoshop.
First of all thank you for the advice.
I made a simple material following your indications, and that was the easy part. I’ve never used HDRI images so I tried downloading one from the internet.
What I found is a Jpg, not .hdr, is it the same or not?
And, should I put it in as a Background or as a Reflection map?

No. HDRI is a special image format that contain illumination. You can find some free HDRI here: http://www.openfootage.net/?cat=15 http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html Free HDRI or High Dynamic Range Images for download
