Had a project wrap recently where I used MASH for scattering and animating a bunch of stuff…got it done, worked ok, but obviously Bifrost is meant to be the next level system for that sort of thing…can I get some info on how well Vray supports it? I dont want to spend time learning it to find that only a fraction of what it can do can be rendered.
It’s supported only through USD. We do have plans to add native support, however.
If you go with USD it does a good job. And its getting better with every release.
ok, Ive never used USD yet, so probably need to do a bit of updating my tools knowledge.
Its not that complicated. Just export your asset as USD and scatter them.
ok cool…I was exporting as Vray proxy before to use in Mash, so not a huge workflow difference. Is Bifrost meant to replace N particles and all that stuff? Bullet etc? I feel like there are so many legacy tools now that do the same thing, Im not sure exactly whats meant to be used for what these days. I use Mash because it doesnt need simulating, and its fairly intuitive, but it can get slow and has limitations.
If you need help with Bifrost jump on the bifrost discord.
Yes is meant to replace all that - Bifrost has a much better framework for all that + is procedural + faster than Mash - with the latest version 2.15 there are more high level tools as well. If you need more help as Oglu said jump into the BF discord.
Hopefully Chaos will integrate BF soon enough
From the latest release info: V-Ray 7 for Maya, Update 2 - now available! - V-Ray for Maya :: Announcements - Chaos Forum
“We’ve bumped the Support for Bifrost to 2.14.1 and 2.15.0 which is available for Maya 2024, Maya 2025 and Maya 2026”
Chaos, could we please get some explanations and examples for how it is now supported? It’ll be really interesting to see how it is! Preferably some tutorials/examples that a general artist can follow, as Bifrost can be a bit of a mind-boggling-maze unless you’re working with it all the time and know the sometimes scientific terminology.
That update is not related to the native Bifrost support, but to an issue that was reported in this thread.
